The global epidemic of human trafficking is gaining a lot of attention lately. There are more news headlines and media outlets that are gaining traction and helping spur the movement of a social revolution in recognizing the need to bring social justice issues to the forefront of our generation. About a year and half ago I learned the term “human trafficking”. After watching a short documentary I went home and sat- looking down on my guitar trying to process what I had just watched. I began to pen out thoughts of what a young child, young girl, caught in this life may be going through. That evening the song “Call Me Family” was written and in the studio within two weeks. At the time I had no idea what this song was going to do or the reason I felt so strongly about this song being produced.
Months went by and the song was just a song- just within the past 6 months the song came to life in the most real way I could ever

imagine.  I was asked to play “Call Me Family” at a conference in Boise, ID and there I met Jenny Williamson. Jenny is passionate about  human trafficking- not only bringing awareness to the issue but being the hands and feet that implement. A year ago I sat and listened to Jenny share her amazing dream of opening a “safe house” in California that girls rescued from prostitution and trafficking could call home.

At this safe house these girls would be called family, have proper counseling and loving support, while being in a safe environment offering a place for healing and unconditional love. I was invited to Sacramento, CA to play the song at a “Courage To Be You” benefit concert to help build that dream home- the “Courage House”. At the end of the night I was absolutely floored when a young girl who was rescued out of forced sexual exploitation by the FBI approached me and said, “you’re song, ‘Call Me Family’, that’s exactly what I’ve been saying and feeling as long as I can remember- now I have a family”. There is nothing more real than that- the purpose of this song has now become so clear. I’m happy to say that Jenny Williamsons dream has come true- the safe house has become reality!
